I Have Arrived: a Blog about Blogging.

Isn’t this the true measure of your immersion in the blog culture (dare I say blogosphere)? That you blog enough not only to write posts, but also to reflect upon the whole concept of blogging.  That you blog about blogging?  Well, if so, I have arrived.

As long as I can remember, writing has been an interest to me.    And once I was called into a vocation of word-sharing, that interest became more than a hobby. It became the very substance of my daily work.  But it never stopped being a hobby.   That is why after trying to craft words for sermons and studies and interactions, I sit down and type here.  I really do enjoy the art of writing.

I always have dreamed of writing a book.  To me it seems like the athlete-climbing-Mount-Everest equivalent for a writer, especially if a few people read it.  But lately I have wondered if I am dreaming of Everest while everyone else have moved onto to visions of topping K2.  In other words, would the effort to write a book only be rewarded with people looking at it  like a Gen-Xer might look at an eight track tape.  At least to me the joy of writing is only made complete as others read.  Therefore, my question is this, what is the best place to write in order to be read?  Everything I know suggests that blogging or whatever replaces it is the answer.

But I must admit that old dreams die hard.  I still dream of Everest.  The hard cover, the dust jacket, and the bio on the back.  I dream about it because it is an old dream easy to recall.  But I dream also because I know that all that is worthy of being read cannot fit into the typical 250 words or less of a blog post.

Oh, there will always be books, but how long will the majority of people actually read them?  Perhaps both mountains are worth climbing if for no other reason than developing the discipline required to meet both challenges.  You tell me.

  1. The cool thing about blogging is that after you’re done with about 50 well thought out posts, you can compile them into a book 🙂 Write the book dude! There are a ton of places to self-publish, and if it’s really good, it will be picked up by a good publisher and released in the iTunes store for some trendy Buster or Mosaic to read on their iPad!

Really, you are ahead of me. I’m the technology guy and I NEED to blog more! Keep up the great work!

    Blessings!!!!
