I enjoy taking the old and presenting it with the new. Right now that means teaching the catechism using a new presentation software called Prezi. Think of Prezi as the new Powerpoint. While PowerPoint uses slides of information to convey information, Prezi acts more like a giant billboard of information which is accessed by zooming in on parts of the information. If you arrange the information skillfully, the hope is that the visual layout serves to aid absorption of the information presented. You are able to group like things together. You are able to show something is a part of a larger whole. You are able to show a decision that needs to be made visually. It is hard to explain, so just check out what I have done so far. Below is one example of how I presented the basic content of the Small Catechism.
Use this link to see all of the Prezis (First through Sixth Commandments) I have created so far: http://prezi.com/user/philiphoppe/
But here is the deal, the software for this service and storage has a yearly recurring fee. I hope to charge a nominal yearly access fee to others to use what I have created once I get the whole catechism done. But I am not there yet.
So here is what I am asking for. If you sign up to try out Prezi (no cost or Credit card needed) and use http://prezi.com/recommend/philiphoppe/ to sign up, I get a couple of months free which would really help me finish this project.
What is in it for you? Well, first you get to try out a great tool for free. Secondly, you can view or use the Prezis I currently have up at the above link. Deal? If so, please use http://prezi.com/recommend/philiphoppe/ to get started.
Very well done! I am teaching our Confirmation class today and we’re on the 5th Commandment – I’ll be using your presentation now! Thank you for making this resource available!
