After many years of talking about doing a garden, we finally got it done this year. We got the garden dug, and the plants in the 
ground. And things are growing. That is what happens to planted things with just a little water and sun. They grow. But I must admit, there is that part of having a garden which is little fun. Weeding. I will not divulge how we have done in that regard. But weeding is the kind of thing that must happen if the best fruit is going to grow.
If you are baptized, you have been planted by God in His garden. And so long as you are watered and get some sun (receive Word and Sacrament), the fruit of the Spirit will grow. But in order for you to truly produce the best fruit, weeding must occur. But here is the good news. This is not for you to do. Jesus will do the weeding as long as you do not reject this work. He will reveal the weeds through his Law, and them he will remove them by his Gospel. He will yank them up by the roots. And he loves doing this work. So let Jesus do the weeding. Let his Word search you and save you.
