“A journey bids the man” – A hymn text

This is a text written based on the parable of the talents from Matthew 25.  It is written in common meter (6686).  I suggest the tune Potsdam.

imageA journey bids the man
His goods to leave behind
Entrusts them to his servants true
Increase he hopes to find

To one he tenders five
Another only two
The last is given just the one
To each as he could do

The first two go to work
Their talents to increase
The last one hides his talent deep
In hope of keeping peace

After some great delay
The master does return
The servants gather to the lord
To tell what they did earn

Well done my faithful ones
To you is given more<
The wicked lazy servant goes
Where there is peace no more.

Lord, through your Spirit true
Increase what you have giv’n
That we too may be faithful found
And live with you in heav’n

Use freely, but I would love to hear if you are using it (pastor@ihoppe.com)
