Adriane Dorr and the Kantorei–The Real Story

imageSt. Louis, MO – Adriane Dorr reported the event on the Synod’s social media networks with amazing detachment.  She told how the CTSFW choir known as the Kantorei visited the chapel at the International Center.  She even posted video of the event.

The story that the video could not show was what happened after chapel.  It was not nearly as calm or beatific as the music presented in the chapel.

Right after service, one of the seminarians asked his buddy, “Who is that girl?”  He had checked and indeed found her ring finger empty.  His buddy went to work asking questions.    And what was revealed was intoxicating to these men who had not had any meaningful contact with women for months if not years.

It was revealed that she was confessional, liturgical, historical, and all of the other “als” every church must be in order to be listed on the Issues Etc. church’s page.  The word spread quickly among the single members of the choir.

One of the married members of the group said, “The single guys were out of their mind.  Attractive, confessional, and single?  It is the trifecta of potential mates for these guys.”

Several members of the choir stumbled towards her while still in the chapel.  After tripping over several chairs, they gave up for a time.  Adriane saw the commotion at the time and later reflected, “It really weirded me out.  They walked toward me without even blinking.”

She returned to her desk to find flowers on her desk.  She recognized them as bereavement flowers a co-worker had received earlier that week.  Scrawled on a piece of paper was this, “You + Me = Koinonia.”

“Just as I was trying to figure out who would do such a thing, three seminarians came around the corner,” Adriane said with fear still in her voice.  “It was time to hide. I ran in the closet and closed the door. From outside I heard someone say, ‘Addy, if you are interested in getting coffee, just call.’  It was then that an obviously handmade business card slid under the door.  On it, a burgundy LCMS cross had been colored over with blue.”  Adriane stayed in the closet until she was certain the seminarians had left the premises.

Matthew Harrison, LCMS President, said, “We are looking into the events.  We may have to institute a new policy restricting single seminarian’s access to the IC.   I forgot just how needy they are.”

  1. The one detail that doesn’t quite ring true is the notion that any one of those guys would need to ask who Adriane is. It would seem more likely that meeting her was an item on their itinerary.

  2. It’s really bad when single seminarians go on the prowl, but oh is it so funny. Thank God those days are in the past.

  3. A funny story indeed. I was a single St Louis student now happily married who never prowled. We did however invite the local nursing school for a get together once. That was a renewal of an old seminary tradition.
