Wright vs. America…

Jeremiah Wright has become a regular celebrity in the last few months. Well if you do not think that he is famous, you must admit infamous. His wild ideas have been broadcast time and time again, especially on conservative talk shows and TV networks. But what he has revealed about himself is not nearly as interesting to me as what his speaking has revealed clearly about most leading conservative voices.

Their main trouble with his comments is that he is Anti-America, not that he is spreading falsehood in the name of God. Hannity often laments that Wright said God D*mn America as if this was his most offensive comment was this one. Of all of the things Wright said, I find this one, at least out of context, as the least offensive. It is much more likely that God would d*mn America than that the US Government set Aids in motion to kill the blacks. God is not by any means loyal to America if America acts unjustly and sinfully. As far as I an tell, God has no particular affection for the US as a nation, except perhaps that many of his people live there. I have been reading Ezekiel lately, and God says some of the harshest things I have ever read about Israel when they continue in idolatry. And God did have great affection for Israel, calling them his bride. If God could essentially d*mn Israel, America could certainly suffer the same judgment. Of course God wants all to turn and live, but eventually he does punish rebellion. But to Hannity and others, the thought that God could be anti-America in unthinkable.

And why? Because these leading conservatives worship country and use God to that end. Hannity has picked up our President’s misrepresentation of God as one who exists to guarantee political freedom to all individuals as if God’s main concern is political liberty and not liberty from sin and death. If God exists to foster political liberty, Jesus’ action on the cross was ridiculous. He indeed should have told his disciples to pick up their swords, called down legions of angels, and kicked some Roman ass.

Wrights words of course revealed his lunacy, but it also revealed how country has become an false idol with so many conservatives. They will only have a God that backs America at all times. And no doubt this idolatry has worked its way down to the common persons perspective. This is why military rites are given the last word at funerals and flags are draped on caskets.

Don’t worship your country. It is but an idol if worshiped. The conservative media have not attacked Wright in order to attack the black church as he claims. They have attacked him because he has committed blasphemy against their God, the USA.
